Daily Itinerary

Day 1 & 2: (Tuesday - Wednesday , 05 – 06 February) – Enroute

Report to Los Angeles International Terminal.  Depart Los Angeles on our flight to Hong Kong.  We lose one day crossing the International Dateline.

Day 3: (Thursday, 07 February) – Ha Noi

After a short layover in Hong Kong, we depart for Vietnam.  Arriving at Ha Noi’s Noi Bai Airfield (heavily bombed during the war) we proceed through immigration, retrieve our bags, clear customs, board our motorcoach, and cross the Red River and its dikes to explore the Ha Noi environs.  We visit the Ho Chi Minh House, the One Pillar Pagoda, the John McCain Monument, Hoa Lo Prison (Hanoi Hilton) and th fascinating War Museum.  Tonight we enjoy our Welcome Dinner.

Day 4: (Friday, 08 February) – Ha Noi to Hue

On the way to the airport we visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.  We fly from Noi Bai Airfield to Phu Bai Airport.  We transfer to our hotel in Hue on the southern bank of the Perfume River.  Visit Le Loi Street and its fascinating shops.

Day 5: (Saturday, 09 February) – Hue

Today is devoted to the study of the 1968 Tet Offensive Battles for Hue.  We walk the southern battle areas of 1/1 and 2/5 seeing the former MACV Compound, Tran Cao Van Street, Girl's High School, the ARVN BOQ, Hue University, Treasury, Provincial Capital Building, and the Church of the Redemptress.  Relax and enjoy the evening along the river.

Day 6: (Sunday, 10 February) – Hue

We visit the LCU Ramp and follow the path of Chuck Meadows and 1/5 approaching the Citadel on the north side of the Perfume River.  We visit the Citadel and the Forbidden City inside.  Enjoy the remainder of the afternoon and evening on your own.  Dinner on your own tonight.

Day 7: (Monday, 11 February) – Hue to Da Nang

Depart south on Highway 1 passing through Phu Bai, Phu Loc, visit Bach Ma Resort west of Phu Loc.  We pass Lang Co before heading up and over the Hai Van (Sea Clouds) Pass with a stop at the top to explore old French bunkers and take in a view of Da Nang Bay.  Continuing down the Hai Van, we visit Nam O Bridge and Red Beach 2 (where the Marines first landed in 1965) and the Da Nang Airfield.  We visit China Beach and climb Marble Mountain and visit marble shops.  Enjoy Da Nang in the evening.

Day 8: (Tuesday, 12 February) – Da Nang

Today we travel west to Arizona Territory, Liberty Bridge, Hill 55, and Hill 37.

Day 9: (Wednesday, 13 February) – Da Nang to Hoi An

Head south on Highway 1 then west to My Son Holyland, An Hoa, Operation Tuscaloosa, the Coal Mines, Antenna Valley and Operation Essex area.  Return through the Que Sons by LZ Ross.

Day 10: (Thursday, 14 February) – Hoi An

Depart early for Tam Ky, Chu Lai, Stone Face (Rock Crusher), Crescent Beach, Hill 35, Hill 43 and Chu Lai Airbase and areas of interest for 5th Marines.

Day 11: (Friday, 15 February) – Hoi An

Depart Hoi An south on Highway 1 for areas of Operation Union I & Operation Union II.

Day 12: (Saturday, 16 February) – Da Nang

Depart early this morning for Da Nang where you will have a free day to visit the beaches, Monkey Mountain, Marble Mountain or head west again to areas of interest.

Day 13: (Sunday, 17 February) – Da Nang to Ha Noi

Depart Da Nang airport to Noi Bai airport for transition to Ha Noi.  Enjoy the city and in the afternoon we visit JPAC (Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command) for a command briefing on their efforts, and in the evening we visit the Marine House, home of the U.S. Marine Corps Security Guard responsible for the protection and defense of the U.S. Ambassador and the American Embassy.

Day 14: (Monday, 18 February) – RETURN to CONUS

After breakfast, we transfer to Noi Bai Airfield for our short flight to Hong Kong.  We depart from Hong Kong, re-cross the International Dateline, and land in Los Angeles this same day.
