Daily Itinerary

Day 1 & 2: (Sunday - Monday, 5 - 6 November, 2017)  –  Houston to Taipie

Report to the International Terminal by 9:00 p.m. and proceed to the EVA Airlines ticketing counter for our flight to Taipei.  Lose one day crossing the International Dateline.

Day 3: (Tuesday, 7 November, 2017)  –  Taipei to Saigon (HCMC)

After a short layover in Taipei where we endure the Big Speech, we depart for Vietnam.  We land at Tan Son Nhut Airfield (once the busiest airport in the world) and proceed through immigration, retrieve our bags, clear customs, and board our waiting motorcoach.  We head into the center of Ho Chi Minh City (still called Saigon by most Vietnamese) and point out sites such as the National ARVN Headquarters, the U.S. Army 3rd Field Hospital, and MACV.  We will stop at the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Old Post Office.  We finish our day at the US Embassy compound (now the US Consulate) to see the place where the Viet Cong sappers blew a hole in the compound wall and gained access to the Embassy grounds during the 1968 Tet Offensive.  This evening we enjoy our Welcome Dinner.

Day 4: (Wednesday, 8 November, 2017)  –  Saigon to Tay Ninh

Early today we visit the Cu Chi Tunnels.  Next we arrive in time for the Noon Ceremony at the Cao Dai Temple.  We will lunch at Ms. Tyiet's restaurant and travel north past Nui Ba Den (Black Virgin Mountain).  We explore the drop zone into War Zone C where the 173rd Airborne made the only combat parachute jump during the war in Operation Junction City.

Day 5: (Thursday, 9 November, 2017)  –  Tay Ninh to Saigon

Arriving back in Saigon we visit the Reunification Hall (the old SVN Presidential Palace), followed by the fascinating War Remnants Museum.  Tonight you can take a walk along old Tu Do Street (now Dong Khoi Street) to discover a myriad of little shops where you can find unusual gifts to bring home.

Day 6: (Friday, 10 November, 2017)  –  Saigon to Pleiku to Kontum

This morning we fly to Pleiku and then drive north to Kontum.  Kontum was one of the major objectives of the 3-prong 1972 Easter Offensive attacks by the NVA (DMZ in I-Corps; Kontum in II-Corps; and An Loc in III-Corps).  We will also visit the Wooden Church and a Montagnard Orphanage.

Day 7: (Saturday, 11 November, 2017)  –  Kontum to Dak To to Pleiku

Early today we depart for Dak To.  We first visit the airstrip area as we gear up for the climb up Hill 875.  Taking our time and plenty of water, we make the ascent to the top of this vicious, pre-Tet battlefield.  Here we remember the brave soldiers and medics and air crews who were involved in the fight to wrest control of the mountain from the NVA.  We pay honor and respect to those who died here in a very special Veterans Day memorial service.  As the day draws to an end, we return to our hotel in Pleiku.

Day 8: (Sunday, 12 November, 2017)  –  Pleiku to Qui Nhon

Today we travel east on Route 19.  We stop at Mang Yang Pass, site of the 1954 annihilation of the French Group Mobile 100 armored column for a look-see.  We then continue east to An Khe and begin our descent to the coast, stopping at An Khe Pass where we spend a moment taking in the view.  Arriving in Qui Nhon, we check in to our hotel and have dinner.

Day 9: (Monday, 13 November, 2017)  –  Qui Nhon

Today is a free day to relax, walk on the beach, or explore the town.  Lunch and dinner are on our own today.

Day 10: (Tuesday, 14 November, 2017)  –  Qui Nhon to Ha Noi to Ha Long Bay

After a very early breakfast, we catch our flight from Phu Cat Airfield to Ha Noi.  We land at Noi Bai Airfield (heavily bombed during the American War).  We then travel to Tam Coc (so-called dry Ha Long Bay) for a boat trip on its beautiful waterway, after which we arrive in Ha Long Town and check into our hotel.

Day 11: (Wednesday, 15 November, 2017)  –  Ha Long Bay

Late this morning, we check-in at Tuan Chau Marina, Tuan Chau Island and embark on a Bhaya Classic boat for a welcome drink followed by a cruise briefing.  Ha Long Bay is one of the most beautiful and mystical places on earth.  Here we are enchanted with magnificent views as we cruise among the bay's 3,000 islands.  Onboard we savor a delicious Vietnamese seafood buffet lunch while enroute to Surprising Grotto.  We disembark and explore this fascinating cave complex.  Back on the boat, we enjoy Happy Hour and a Vietnamese cooking demonstration on the sundeck (if weather permitting).  This evening we relish a sumptuous set-menu seafood dinner onboard and later take in the movie or join our staff for squid fishing as our vessel cruises back through the bay to its overnight anchorage.

Day 12: (Thursday, 16 November, 2017)  –  Ha Long Bay to Ha Noi

Start your day with Tai Chi on the Sundeck while complimentary tea and coffee are served.  The Bhaya Classic weighs anchor to continue our cruise the Bay.  Breakfast is served in the dining room.  Later, a buffet brunch is prepared as our vessel leisurely cruises the islands on our way back to harbor.  We disembark at Tuan Chau Marina and return to Ha Noi crossing the Red River and its dikes and enter the capital city.

Day 13: (Friday, 17 November, 2017)  –  Ha Noi

This morning we visit the Hoa Lo Prison (Hanoi Hilton) and stop at the John McCain Monument.  After lunch, we enjoy a city tour by cyclo.  Tonight, we are on own to sample one of the many restaurants and night spots in this 1,000-year old city.

Day 14: (Saturday, 18 November, 2017)  –  Ha Noi

Our first stop of the day is the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, followed by the Ho Chi Minh House and One Pillar Pagoda.  We then enjoy a fabulous lunch at the Lotus Buffet Restaurant.  This afternoon is free to relax or to make those last-minute gift purchases to bring home.  This evening all hands are required at our very special Farewell Dinner.

Day 15: (Sunday, 19 November, 2017)  –  Departure

This morning we return to Noi Bai Airfield for our flight to Taipei.  Departing from Taipei, we gain a day enroute by re-crossing the International Dateline, arriving in the continental United States this same day.
